In 1993, Gideon dedicated several weeks to capturing photographs of the Broderip and Charles Bell wards at the Middlesex Hospital, the first AIDS ward in London. The outcome was ‘The Ward’, a captivating documentary series that delves into the everyday existence of its patients. Now, with ‘The Ward - Revisited’ exhibition, Mendel commissioned Cut and Cue to craft a compelling large-screen video installation, featuring numerous additional images that were previously unseen.

Marking thirty years since the initial capture of the photographs, the film adds a visceral dimension to the narrative and serves as a poignant depiction of the impact of HIV/AIDS on the lives of the individuals featured in the photographs. The film provides a powerful testament to the enduring relevance and significance of their experiences, resonating with viewers on a deeply emotional level.
